Photographer #2: Weegee (Arthur Fellig)

Weegee was a photographer who worked in in the streets of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He captured much of his work while following emergency services and documenting what went on. Often times his work was very real, and it could depict anything from a pleasant afternoon on Coney Island, or a death investigation on the streets, What strikes me about his work is not so much the photographs themselves, but the moments he captures. Because he spent most of his time following emergency services, he captured crimes in action as well as the aftermath, and sometimes the reactions of those present. It seems like he really captured the essence of what is was like to live in Urban New York in the 1930's and 40's, and I love that about his work.
